Special achievement in Dhobiatala
Special achievement in Dhobiatala
In 1999, TWIN in association with FOCUS, a reputable NGO already active in the area, started a child care cente for the children engaged in hazardous recycling work in the locality A group of 63 children in the age group of 5-1 years were taken in the programmes. To compensate for the loss of earnings from the children, the mothers wer paid Rs. 100 per month as compensation and incentive for them to agree to remove their children from child labour However, mothers have now realized the benefit of their children regaining their childhood and growing in tensiom free environment. As a result, the incentive payment of Rs. 100 is no more needed. At present there are 74 children in the Education programme.
